PROGRAM INFO SHEET
GENERAL SCOPE and PURPOSE:
Young Talent Night (YTN) is a regular monthly series presented by Los Angeles Women in Music (LAWiM) showcasing young performers. It is part of our commitment to nurture younger artists and reach out to the community through music. The show provides an opportunity for kids to perform in an intimate, eclectic setting for a small audience of family and friends. The show is also a high quality 6-camera video WEBCAST. A percentage of the show proceeds, direct donations through our website, fundraising efforts, and support from our sponsors fund our “Musical Gifts & Scholarship Program” for kids in need. LAWiM regularly "gifts" kids and organizations with musical instruments and accessories, supplies, and scholarships/monies to help further music education and give rise to social and civic issues in the community. Gift presentations are made at the end of every YTN show. The “LIVE WEBCAST” event airs on the 3rd Saturday of every month (7:30-9:00pm) @ Kulak’s Woodshed (www.kulakswoodshed.com) in North Hollywood, CA. President of LAWiM and prominent L.A. vocal coach/singer, LEANNE SUMMERS, is the Event Producer, with the evening hosted by guitarist/songwriter, LESLIE STODDARD, and occasional industry guests. PARTICIPATION INFORMATION: TOTAL FINANCIAL COMMITMENT is $150 for each performer.
We feature 5-6 performers per show - boys and girls - each act performs a 3-song set with live instruments or CD tracks (quality pre-recorded backing tracks or karaoke may be used). A grand piano, full sound system, mics, stands, stools and all instrument connections are provided. LAWiM has a regular production staff to ensure the highest quality show. Artist may accompany himself or herself or bring accompanist. We feature instrumentalists in addition to singers, and make every effort to accommodate performance options. All instrumentation/combinations are encouraged. All styles of music are presented (we’ve had everything from hip-hop to opera!); original and covers. Additional specifics of the evening (i.e. – sound check, performance order, invitations, and other details) are provided to the artist once they are booked for a show.
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS: It is important that we maintain the quality that will not only reflect well on LAWiM, but will continue to attract industry persons that ultimately afford opportunities for the talent, and sponsors/donors for the funding of the gifts and scholarship program. We regularly scout for talent via performing arts schools, competitions, private teachers and industry professionals. If you would like to be considered for one of our shows, please fill out the SUBMISSION FORM HERE. NOTE: No bookings will be made without contact by our production staff for permission by parent or legal guardian.
LAWiM MISSION STATEMENT: Established in 1986, Los Angeles Women in Music (LAWiM) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Public Benefit Corporation dedicated to fostering equal opportunity for women and men in the music industry and to promoting the advancement of women through empowerment, support, education, encouragement and recognition of their achievements. The goals and activities of Los Angeles Women in Music are founded on the belief that women and men working together in mutual respect, sharing abilities and expertise, will strengthen the music business and the music that is at its heart. At the same time, we recognize the unique and valuable contributions of women and advocate a musical world where these contributions are acknowledged and talents are nurtured. As such, we provide forums and opportunities for emerging talents; pay tribute to women who have made distinctive and/or significant contributions to our musical culture; recognize those (individuals/organizations/entities) who have contributed to the betterment of women in music; provide educational programs and events at large; and give rise to social and civic issues in our local community through musical endeavors. |
