Erica Gimpel |
![]() Erica Gimpel was surrounded by the sounds of music very early in life. Her mother, concert singer Phyllis Bash, was 8 months pregnant with Erica while performing in the opera Porgy and Bess. Erica grew up in Manhattan and began to study piano at age 5. She was accepted into the prestigious High School for Performing Arts and during her junior year landed the role of “Coco” in FAME, the groundbreaking TV series that would go on to become an international hit and encourage millions of young people around the world to “follow their dreams.” In a flash, Erica relocated to Los Angeles, became an international star with platinum soundtracks, and was performing in sold out stadiums around the world. Since that time she has gone on to star in dozens of TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy, House, Boston Legal, Veronica Mars, JAG and the Sci-Fi hit Babylon 5 (for which she co-wrote and performed the song “Do You Remember”), plus series regular roles on E.R. and The Profiler. Erica's original music can be heard on her new CD, SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND FLY~ ERICA GIMPEL LIVE. David Steinfeld of Beyond Race Magazine says, “Gimpel sings and plays piano and is backed by a crack band. In addition to the title track, some of the highlights include the opening “NIGHT SKY” (my personal favorite) and the closing “JOYCE’S SERENADE,” the one instrumental on the album.” Recorded at the benefit concert for the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center, SPREAD YOUR WINGS has quickly become one of CDBaby’s top albums in the Jazz/Pop genre and is available on iTunes. Indie Creations says of Erica’s live performance, “She plays the piano so gracefully, while the band played in unison. The performance started out with a relaxing jazz feeling comforting the mind, body and soul.” The CD is distributed in Japan by Sandfish Records. Erica recently returned from a two-month stint in Ireland where she was a celebrity judge on Ireland’s most popular television talent show. While there she performed in concert with cellist Vyvienne Long (Damien Rice.) Her music was also recently featured in Lineage Dance Company’s show Healing Blue, a tribute to women who are battling and have overcome breast cancer. Erica will reunite with the dance company for an encore performance at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on February 18, 2011. She performs frequently with her band throughout the Los Angeles area.
