CHRIS BENNETT, our May Spotlight Member
From Disco Diva to Jazz Chanteuse, Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Chris Bennett is,
today, a name synonymous with the international success and commercial appeal of the
southern California contemporary jazz music scene. A talented producer as well as
performer with 10 CDs to her credit, Chris Bennett produced multi Grammy winner Keb Mo's
first CD, RAINMAKER, and has had her original songs recorded by Tina Turner, The Three
Degrees, The Manhattan Transfer, Nina Storey, and many more. Her newest CD to be
released in May of 2008 is called GIRL TALK and features Chris on vocals and piano and
all female jazz musicians. Produced and arranged by Tom Saviano and featuring Kristin
Korb on bass, Suzanne Morissette on drums, and Sarah Underwood on sax, as well as a female string
section, this CD promises to be the best one yet. Chris Bennett has taught yoga for over 20 years and just
completed a Broadway musical with her longtime collaborator, Donna Fein, which takes place at a yoga
retreat. Read more about Chris at www.chrisbennett.com or at our Spotlight page.

LAWIM is Fiscal Sponsor for the “BEAUTIFUL” Project
The inaugural BEAUTIFUL event was hosted by Cal Tech Folk Music Society, co-sponsored by Los Angeles WoMen in Music, raising funds for Haven House in Pasadena, one of the first domestic violence shelters in the country. CD Baby reviewed this CD and said it was the best thing they’d heard in a long time. This sold out evening of music by women helping women and families of abuse was inspirational and uplifting. LAWIM member, singer/songwriter Joan Enguita, founded the movement and is responsible for the creation of the BEAUTIFUL project.
“Project Beautiful Donation”:
through LAWIM to support our efforts in raising funds for our Southern California women’s crisis shelters.
