PRO Recording Techniques: Critical Listening
with Engineer/Producer, Lenise Bent
November 20, 2010
By overwhelming demand, we are expanding on the initial workshop held last month with Lenise Bent, PRO RECORDING TECHNIQUES for the SINGER/SONGWRITER. Make your recordings sound like the finished product publishing companies, film & TV are now requiring.
This workshop will focus on the MIXING STAGE of your song/project and the necessary CRITICAL LISTENING. The best tool you have in your tool bag is not the gear... it's your ears! Learn HOW to listen, WHAT to listen for and WHERE to listen. Determine what you are hearing and how to make it better... and when to leave it alone. Evaluate your mixes and learn the tips and tricks used by the pros to create the finished sound you want and how to get it with what you already own!
WHAT TO BRING: 1. One of your own recordings and a sample of a commercial recording you want it to sound like. We will listen and compare. 2. A sample of a particular commercial recording that begs the question "How did they do that?" 3. If you don't have a song to submit, bring your ears and your notebooks. ALL attendees will benefit from the "listening"!
Songs should be on CD or flash drive. Material will be listened to on a first come first serve basis, so be sure to arrive early. We will guarantee the first (10) submissions will be heard... more if there is time.
