Anna Montgomery began her musical training at the age of four and began performing at age six. Always involved in live acts growing up, she trained informally in songwriting, piano playing and singing with both of her parents ( Gary Montgomery of The Colours and Kay Montgomery, opera singer and renowned vocal coach in the US and Europe). She was formally trained at Western Michigan University in the country's leading vocal jazz program and at Goshen College.
Her formal singing career began in Chicago when she was discovered by Pete Cosey, guitar player for Aretha Franklin and Miles Davis, who produced her first demo. In the mid 1990's, Anna moved to Los Angeles and began intensive training with Platinum songwriter, Harriet Schock, and formed her own rhythm and blues band with doo-wop legend, Buzz Clifford. The collaboration of Montgomery and Clifford resulted in the release of her debut album, Lyin' in the Face of Love, which garnered critical acclaim and attracted the attention of Grammy Winner, Shelby Lynne. She became Lynne's back-up singer as well as opening act for the Identity Crisis National Tour. Anna was presented with a Los Angeles Music Award for Best Adult Contemporary Artist on the West Coast leg of that tour.
In 2005, Anna's father died suddenly. The healing process resulted in her second album, Triple Seven, which is a posthumous collaboration between Anna and her father.
That year she joined a touring all female cover band, BandShe, and fronted the LA based rock band, Raw Sugar. A collaborative relationship with dance song hit maker, Alexander Perles has resulted in various European dance club hits, including #1 radio crossover hit , Super Bomb, which currently has over one million viewer hits on YouTube.
Anna's live television performances include The Ellen Show, Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Soundstage presents Shelby Lynne-Live in Concert.
