JANEL PARRISH is our JULY SPOTLIGHT MEMBER
Born in Hawaii, Janel Parrish started her career with a love for music. At age six, she played the role of "Little Cosette" on Broadway, and in the National Touring Company of Les Miserables. Back in Hawaii, Janel continued on to play lead roles in local musicals and plays. The past years have seen Parrish appear in many television series and TV movies such as Gepetto, Baywatch Hawaii, The Bernie Mac Show, Zoey 101, and The O.C.
In summer 2007, she made her feature film debut starring as Jade in Lionsgate’s Bratz: The Movie She also recorded and released her first single, which she wrote, called "Rainy Day", that can be heard on the Bratz soundtrack. The video and single are also available on iTunes.
Immediately following the film’s release, Parrish landed a recurring role on the NBC smash hit series, Heroes. She recently found herself co-starring in her first dramatic movie role alongside Tom Arnold and Kelly Blatz in April Showers (based on the Columbine shootings) set for release in Spring 2009.
Currently signed to Geffen Records, Janel lives in Los Angeles, and is well on her way to becoming a recognized film actress and solo recording artist. For more info visit www.janelparrish.com OR www.myspace.com/janelparrish.
LAWIM IS A SUPPORTER OF THE ANNUAL SINGER/SONGWRITER CONTEST TO AID THE MISSING
The GINA for Missing Persons 2008 Contest finals were telecast live on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from the stage at the Roland Corporation Media Center.
The first place winner is Gaby Moreno of Studio City, California. Gaby's effect on listeners can be best summed up by a reviewer from "Independent Artists Company" who reviewed her live performance "Once in awhile you come across a new artist who has not only amazing charisma, vocal abilities and raw talent, they have something more. They have "it." You see them perform live and you just stop and sit down with your jaw hitting the floor." Compared to talented artists such as Fiona Apple and Joan Jett, Gaby Moreno has a big, melodic sound that appeals to the masses, and her Guatemalan roots will always endear her to her South American fans. Her first full-length CD, “Still The Unknown,” includes songs in both English and Spanish. More info at: www.GabyMoreno.com.
Second and Third place winners respectively are Arlene Kole of Simi Valley, California and Mark Wayne Glasmire of Arlington, Texas. LAWIM was very well represented at this event. We are proud and excited that 5 of the Top 10 Finalists for the competition were LAWIM members! Keeping company with Gaby and Arlene were Manda, Julie Chadwick and Valerie Ahern.
The top 10 finalists put on a wonderful show and received terrific prizes including a 1,000 CD replication package including Barcode from Disc Replicators International, a beautiful Daisy Rock Guitar, Studio Recording time, free memberships to music organizations, subscriptions to Music Connection magazine and Much More! Go to WWW.411GINA.ORG for more details.
